It is very well known now, at the time of independence when most of the princely states in defined territory of india have joined the country. At that time J&K being Muslim majority state with a Hindu King decided to remain autonomous. But Pakistan has illegally started capturing most of the part of State. In hurry the king Hari singh asked India for help and joined the Indian dominion with the contract called Instrument of Accession with some "specific conditions". Later on Indian Army helped J&K to get the state out of pak capture but due to interviene by United nations, millatery of both countries stopped wherever they are which is now known as line of cease (LOC). Later on these "specific conditions" which were proposed during IOA with some additional laws drafted in constitution as article 370 in the part of temporary laws.
Modi Govt since their first term known for surprising/riskful decisions. Such huge mandate provide the govt confidence for something which is their goal to achieve since the foundation of BJP. This decision is bigger because everyone was expecting that at max govt going to abolish the 35A. But since Modi is expected for doing unexpected so the central govt proposed Abolishing everything from 370, which makes J&K different from any other state of country. They didn't stop here only, they also proposed for dividing the Laddakh separate and assigned both divided entity as Unioun territories. Also pass the both bills from Rajya Sabha as well as Loksabha with a big majority numbers at both places.
In all the discussion on this in both the houses of Parliament, Opposition specially congress didn't seem to have a unique party line, morever they were not able to objectify the points they put while opposing it. Number of the leaders of Congress party supports decision of govt. Opposition had to identify the actual issue that they wanted to oppose i.e opposing for 370 or opposing for dividing the state or opposing for the converting state to Unioun territory or opposing for the method implemented while making this decision. Even the son of King Hari Singh and vateron leader of Congress Dr. Karan Singh in his open letter didn't oppose this decision. He wrote that when he was himself sader-ae-riyast of J&K had proposed to abolish 35A. however he put the question on the method of implementation of it, but didn't doubted the dicision.
Pros : Because of 370, J&K was really separated from mainstream of country. how unfortunate is this that migrants which came from Pakistan to J&K at the time of partition didn't have voting rights in the state from past 70 years. More than 100 laws including RTI, RTE, reservation etc which were come into existence after independence didn't got applied to state because of the provisions in this article.
Only few political families took advantage of it since last 60-70 years.
Now Incoming of external investment into the state will also help the Kashmiri youth for their employment.
Dividing the state is also positive decision for
Laddakh people and no harm for J&K. This was awaited demand for ladakh people.
Cons : Looking toward the decision their is no disadvantage for the residents of State as well the country. But since people of valley are brainwashed for last 70 years regarding the article 370 and against indian govt by Pak funded separatist. Therefore it is little tough for the people of valley to accept it.
More than Army some mediaters are required in valley this time, who can make understand the population of Kashmir that "this decision is actually for their benefit in long term, now they are part of mainstream of country".
In the absence of such mediater dialogue , mischief maker (infact major politicians of kashmir as well) can took advantage to provoke the common population against this decision.
